In gratitude we give to others. But in giving we express our gratefulness to the God who gave and keeps on giving.

- Evelyn Miranda-Feliciano
Filipina Writer

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

- Ephesians 2:8-10

November 2008

Dear Friends,

It's the week before Thanksgiving. My heart's desire is to be thankful … so I'm looking for the silver linings, the things hidden and still unseen, the buried treasure in the field that is for sale. This week has been hard to bear. It has been a week of tragic things, ugly life altering things that happened to people we love. One of the relatives said to me, "This kind of thing must happen all the time, with you". Not true, some hideous things are still (gratefully) rare.

Because of hope for thanksgiving, I decided to pay attention and I found myself watching my co-laborers, those devoted people with whom I work.

They have a child or children living with them who are not their own. She prays all throughout the night for her new friend who is dying. Relentless demands don't keep her from making one more trip to the hospital. They preach the word faithfully. He has forgiven his street friend who stole from him. She imagines a world class mural with little experience at this size of project. He balances our books. They stock the food bank, clean the property, discipline teen-agers, tutor in school work, pick kids up, teach soccer, risk loving, counsel their peers, speak truth, cry for the other's pain, visit prisoners, gather thousands of Christmas gifts, research, write, fill out forms, make bank deposits, call, speak, pray, hope, give-up, then pray and hope some more. I get it … I live among the saints of God who, because of the Love that broods in their hearts, give radiance to their Lord, the ultimate Giver.

It is enough to stand alongside such as these. And for this I am thankful.

We love you dear friends. We are thankful for you!

Finances and Prayer

We need your help as we look forward to financial giving between now and the end of the year. Year-end giving is very important to our financial health. We have already reduced operating expenses. Due to the uncertainty in our economy, we anticipate that some may have to change their normal year-end pattern of giving. We are asking for your help in making the difference this year.

We need to raise $230,848 over and above what we conservatively expect to be donated through December 31, 2008. The following table outlines one way our goal can be achieved:
