The Jesus Encounter beginsThe Jesus Encounter

"The Jesus Encounter" -- that's the theme for this summer here at Neighborhood Ministries. Each year, as we pick our theme for the curriculum writing, we ask the Lord for what we all need to be reminded. These are tenuous days filled with uncertainty. We all need a Jesus Encounter. Follow us this summer, through our weekly prayer letters (www.nmaz.org), as we describe for you what our Jesus Encounters are looking like. They are certain to be filled with the unexpected, the miraculous and abundant love.

Summer Team

Nineteen (19) young leaders will work together all summer as this summer’s interns. Thirteen (13) of them come from the Neighborhood Ministries community. Our young people have been in a leadership class all year preparing for this responsibility. This team will be changed by all they do this summer, and inevitably impact others in so doing.

Kids Clubs

Our big Kids Club happens right in the middle of our summer. 500 kids, 120+ leaders … amazing fun and life-changing time together. Leaders have begun Kids Club in two other locations … Albuquerque (4th year) and the newest one in Chinle, on the Navajo Nation. We will help with those sister Kids Clubs this summer, which is always our joy and privilege.

Other Camps

Getting into the beauty of God’s creation and out of the heat of Phoenix, spending significant time together and growing spiritually are always the hallmarks of camps. Small groups are taking trips together and a few larger camps are also planned. (Teens to Horncreek in Colorado, Barrio Works youth to AZ Outdoor Adventures and 5-7th graders to our own Mountain Meadows Camp in Christopher Creek.) This summer will be an incredible gift of God’s grace to so many.

Finances

There are many ways to get involved with us in the summer and one way is to help financially. As we deliberated over the cutbacks earlier in the year we made a decision to preserve the key components of our summer. Summer is a gift to our NM family that lasts all year. Please help if you are able.

Prayer

Prayer covers all we need from "A-Z". We hope you will join us in praying for a powerful summer of ministry.

Q"Quote"
To say prayers in a decent, delicate way is not heavy work. But to pray really, to pray till hell feels the ponderous stroke, to pray till the iron gates of difficulty are opened, till the mountains of obstacles are removed, till the mists are exhaled and the clouds are lifted, and the sunshine of a cloudless day brightens-this is hard work, but it is God's work, and man's best labor.

Prayer Update for Marcos Marquez (May 23, 2009)

Thank you so much for your ongoing support for Marcos. Here are the updates:

The prosecutor has yet to get an indictment. Without this, Marcos will be allowed to go free. She has 6-8 more working days to get this. Pray that she isn’t able. Pray for her, the prosecutor. Marco’s family is asking for prayer for her heart, that God would change it. That she would realize she is putting all this energy against an innocent man. Possibly, she needs healing herself. Pray for Marcos. Pray for his heart and mind, that he would continue to trust in his Lord and Savior, who is near to him in all things.

Hey Kit and each staff member :)

Thanks so much for the update on Marcos—yes I and ODF have all been praying for him, his family and the specific requests!!! Each newsletter always has a special, unique creativity—this time the alphabet requests, and especially the clever one with the actual quote on prayer!! May your financial needs be met in abundance and all the requests for help for Kids Club be completed soon.

Lots of prayer, love and Hebrews 6:10.

More love,
suzette

I'm in continuance prayer for my brother-in-Christ Marcos and family. Please relay this to him.

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…"
(Hebrews 12:1-2a, NKJ).

Do you ever feel like there are major obstacles in your path to fulfilling your destiny? Maybe you don’t see how you could ever accomplish your dreams, or how you can get well, or how a legal situation will ever get resolved. Maybe the negative thoughts are telling you “It’s over. Just accept it. It’s never going to get any better.” But my encouragement to you is that God is a faithful God! He’s called the Author and the Finisher of our faith. God will never start something that He cannot finish. That promise He put in your heart—that you’re going to be healed, that you’re coming out of debt, that your family will be restored—God has every intention of bringing those promises to pass.

When God put the dream in your heart, He already had a completion date. He can already see it done. You may not see how it can happen. It may be taking a long time. All the odds are against you. But if you’ll just keep believing, keep praying, and keep being your best, then God promises He is going to finish what He started in you!

Father God, thank You for being the Author and Finisher of my faith. I choose to submit every area of my mind, will, and emotions to You. I invite You to have Your way in me and complete what You’ve started in my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
